Chapter 15

They were well into Sleep, and several more picks had hit their target no more notes on them, when Steve and two other tall boys appeared at her arm, ‘Time to move Lucky!’ He nodded at Mark who beckoned them over to the side. The boys crowded about her and gently pushed their way out of the crowd.

Richie had seen the boys surround her then move off, and his frown deepened again, who the hell were these boys? And why did they move Lucky off with them.

Mark moved them to the head of the queue, he’d had his orders, and Lucky wanted to get introduced to Steve’s brother Simon and their mate Owen, nice guys. So Mark left the guys with her, chatting and shooting the breeze.

As the ends of Whole Lot of Leaving floated to them, the fan pit emptied out the second lot, Mark walked up to them, ‘You ready people?’ The folks behind Lucky yelled yes, ‘Remember, don’t push, there’s room for all.’ With that he took Lucky by the hand and led them all forward, the boys crowding behind her like a human shield. The butterflies that had taken root in her stomach kicked off big time!

The strains of In These Arms started up as Mark let go of her hand and beckoned her to carry on walking, suddenly the roaring of the crowd and the music blasted her, and she was in the famed fan pit! Steve, Simon and Owen at her back carving out a niche for her at the side, right in David’s line of sight! She’d got a clear shot at him and whipped out her camera, and started snapping!

Everyone was singing along and Jon was working the other pit, but Richie turned to take a check of ‘his’ pit and his jaw nearly hit the floor there stood Lucky, surrounded by those damn boys! He noticed she was taking pics of David, who hadn’t realised she’d hit the stage. Grinning he wandered to David, and jerked his head to the pit. David frowned and then his whole face lit up when he recognised Lucky standing there. He blew her a kiss, then frowned, who the hell were the men surrounding her, making sure she wasn’t getting knocked about by the others in the pit?!

Jon walked by and noticed his two brothers were preoccupied by Richie’s pit. He spotted Lucky grinned and swaggered over to her; she nearly dropped her camera as the crowd behind her surged forward. He stopped dead and gave her the ‘wtf’ look at the guys surrounding her, no wonder Dave had a pissy look on his face.

The opening for Captain Crash started in, but Jon gave the ‘hold it’ signal, and the music quieted. Walking over to the pit he looked Lucky in the eye and he saw her swallow, she thought he was going for payback; he just wanted to be nosy!

He addressed the pit, popping his ear piece out, ‘How y’all doin tonight? Enjoying it?’ The pit screamed as did the crowd. He hunkered down right in front of Lucky, she started to go red, ‘Well darlin aren’t you a tall one. What’s your name baby?’ He cocked his head to one side and waited.

‘Elvira!’ Jon nearly choked, the boys at her side looked like they’d misheard. Jon thanked god he’d not put the mic towards her!

‘Lucky, what a great name.’ His eyes crinkled at the corners, the guys behind her frowned they knew she’d not said her real name, but somehow Jon knew it. They didn’t see Lucky discreetly flip him the bird.

Jon laughed at the bird, damn she was feisty! ‘Well now darlin, who are these strapping men behind you? Boyfriends?’

She rolled her eyes and said friends.

‘I’m sorry baby didn’t catch that, say it again.’ And as she said ‘friends’ again, he made certain the mic was in front of her and caught it. David heard it and grinned, damn Jon was good at times!

‘Well baby enjoy the show, boys lets go!’ With that they finally swung into Captain Crash.

Lucky couldn’t believe he’d pulled that shit in front of thousands of people! She looked at David who shrugged and blew her another kiss.

Steve leant to her ear and shouted, ‘Looks like you may have pulled! And how did Jon know your real name?’

She twisted and said into his ear, ‘Secret to the grave sweetie.’ He laughed and nodded and left it at that.

David had witnessed that little moment and he wondered about it, but not for long as she looked back at him, licked her lips and let her eyes wander up and down him. Christ he could feel the heat from here!

As We Got It Going On rolled to an end the pit was escorted out and back into the crowd. No sooner had she got back, another pick hit her front, and there was Jon grinning at her, not Richie. Lucky’s jaw hit the floor; she didn’t think he did that sort of thing! Damn! This one went in her front pocket with the written one Richie had thrown at her, the others went into the other front pocket.

The rest of the concert whizzed by, Richie sung I’ll Be There For You, and held the women in the audience captivated. When they sang Bad Name Lucky nearly ended up in a puddle, she loved that song.

For the encore they sang Always, another puddle maker where Lucky was concerned, and Wanted, this had the crowd singing louder than they had all night. As the boys left the stage for the last time the crowd screamed and clapped and didn’t want to leave.

But all good things come to an end!

Sad but true, Gail; sad but true. I liked how Jon got to the bottom of things :) and is David going to combust up there?

LOL - made me laugh with the bit about "didn't think Jon did that"! Mainly because the pick he hit me with in Southampton damned nearly went straight down my top!!
